WHAT IS NAATI - CCL TEST?

NAATI is an Australian national standard and certifying body delivering highly qualified translators and interpreters across Australia. It is a not-for-profit organisation that is issuing certification to practitioners who want to join the workforce in Australia as translators or interpreters.

Apart from issuing certificates to practitioners, NAATI also offers a renowned language test known as Credentialed Language Test (CCL) where international students can get 5 extra bonus points towards their point-based Australian immigration visa applications. In the NAATI CCL test a candidate is tested on his/her abilities to translate the English language to LOTE (Language Other Than English) and vice versa. On successfully passing this test, test takers are awarded five bonus points also referred as Credentialed Community Language Points.

NAATI CCL TEST FORMAT

NAATI CCL tests are usually delivered online from Monday to Friday so international students can attempt this test from anywhere around the world; however, before sitting for an exam, you must fulfill minimum technology requirements to get your test questionnaires. These requirements include a PC/Laptop/computer system with Windows 10 or MAC OS10+, a reliable, uninterrupted internet connection, and a good quality headset. NATTI CCL do not appreciate the use of mobile phone or tablets for the test as they may interrupt the test process. Currently, NAATI is available in several languages such as Urdu, Hindi, Nepali, Russian, Vietnamese, and Telegu.

This test consists of two main components where two dialogue recordings are played by the examiner. These dialogues typically cover the real-life scenarios around business, consumer affairs, insurance, housing, social services, financials, community, health, employment, and so on. The candidates will be tested on their skills to communicate effectively in English and LOTE. Their answers will also be assessed on the level of formality and sentence structure.
